After going to Morristown NJ to watch Lamar walk around town(his official town walk) his instructor, Barbara informed us that Lamar was doing wonderful and that he would most likely be placed with a blind man\woman in a mater of weeks. And it happened. Btw, watching Lamar w| his trainer show us what he'd learned(by walking Barb around, avoiding objects, putting his body in front of her's, watching traffic, and being very alert) was the most rewarding I have ever felt! He did amazingly well. My mom was crying and none of us; Dad, Mom and I, could believe that was our Lamar out there doing so well. The one thing I didn't like so well was that we were not allowed to talk to Lamar. We had to stay abt 15 behind Lamar as he walked, I think he might have recognized us tho, haha opps. So anyways, Lamar has been matched up with a 54 year old woman from Washington, who is a Homemaker. Lamar is her sixth dog guide. Here is a letter from his new owner:
"Hello! Lamar is so wonderful, and I just wanted to say thanks to you for such a great job in raising him. I truly love him, and love working with him. I truly believe God put this match together, and am looking forward to all of our adventures together.
I live on the west coast, with my husband, and our tomcat Sammy.
We do a good bit of travelling, and are very involved in our church and community. Lamar will be kept busy going with me to all my activities. I serve on a couple of Boards, which could mean some travel from home. I also enjoy just taking walks, and know that Lamar likes that, as well, we had a great time going around the Leisure Path at The Seeing Eye.
Once again, thanks for all you have done, to help make Lamar the perfect dog he is! :)
Peace and blessings!"
So that's it for Lamar! I'm sure he's loving his new life, and doing a great job!

Lamar is gone. I feel relieved but at the same time, I miss him. When something or someone has been part of your life for such a long time, you feel a little hole when it is taken away. Surprisingly I never cried! We were actually deep sea fishing at the time when Vicki Hennig came for Lamar. That maybe have been better. We said goodbye to him in the morning, and then, when we got home he was gone. I think if I had saw them taking him away it would have hit me a little harder! I hope he is doing well with his training!!!
I learned a lot with having Lamar. It was a lot of work, but the feeling of accomplishment is great! : )

Yesterday around dinner time my mom told me that Vickie Hennig had called and that she is coming on the 16th. Wow, it kinda shocked me. I was waiting for that call all along, but then it came. I am happy that Lamar is leaving. This is the whole point in which I did a seeing eye puppy. Now he needs to go back and hopfully fulfill his roll as a seeing eye dog. But, at the same time I’ll miss him. He’s been at my side(figurativly speeking) for a little over a year and a half. Here is a few things I wrote in the Final Report form I did for Lamar for the seeing eye.
Please tell us about your puppy's personality, temperament and outstanding behavior traits:
He LOVES people! Get's excited easily and loves to play. He's funny, and makes everyone laugh. Kinda get's tired easy tho. I think he does very well on walks besides when he decides to park half way through. He thinks he's a lap dog. Always wants to be by people. If he looses sight of me(I'm taking a shower, go outside without him seeing, or he just looses track of me) he starts to whine until I come back in sit or talk to him. Loves laying on people's feet, being petted and talked to. Gives everyone a good morning kiss!
Toys (What toys did your puppy play with? Like Best? Destroy?):
He liked bones. Shoes, he didn't chew on them, but he likes to sleep with his head in a shoe, silly dog. Also he loves sitting(trying to lay) in wash baskets. He also likes his crate(he takes things in there without us knowing!).
Cute Stories (Things you'll remember most about your puppy.):
The one time we took Lamar out on our boat with us. That's another thing he enjoyed very much. Well, I jumped in the water to go wake boarding and Lamar went crazy. He ran around trying to get out of the boat. We think he though I was drowning and wanted to save him. I told him it was ok, but he still kept an eye on me the whole time I was in the water.
Oh, another cute thing Lamar does for me, is he's my insect detector. I'm terrified of spiders, and any bug for that matter. Lamar loved to step on them though, and eat them of course : )
